The Bruckner family shtetl was Chortkov, located at 49.01'N, 25.48'E, which has been part of the Ukraine since the fall of the Soviet Union. It was long in the eastern half of the province of Galicia. During the 20th Century, it was ruled by several countries, including Austria-Hungary, Poland, Russia and The Soviet Union. It is near modern-day Romania and Moldova.
